Cedar Glen is over 100 years old and is mostly in its original state providing guests a unique opportunity to experience a real sense of Australian country history.
Cedar Glen was the original family homestead where 10 Stephens children were raised. It is now guest accommodation only, and is made up of 4 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms/toilet and a kitchenette facility. When you stay in the Homestead, it also includes the lovely homemade meals we offer here.
Built in 1901 from timber grown on the property, The Homestead had only ever been occupied by the Stephens family until we began using the house solely for Farmstay purposes in 2000. As was common at the turn of the 20th century, the old Queenslander style houses were built in two sections. This is evident in Cedar Glen Homestead, where the front section is all living area, while the back section houses the kitchen, dining and lounge area. There is only a narrow verandah section separating the two, and the reason for this was for fire safety. In those days they considered the most likely place for a fire to start would be in the kitchen area. Such a design would give them a chance to stop the fire before it caught on to the living area, or at least give them a chance to escape.
The accommodation adjoins the dining area where the delicious Cedar Glen meals are prepared and served for guests. The dining room has an open fire place for winter warmth.
The huge open veranda is perfect for relaxing and soaking up the spectacular views.
Furnished with antiques, some of which have been in the homestead since it was built in 1901, the house is of timber construction with high ceilings and large rooms and verandas.
