MEAL AND ACTIVITIY DESCRIPTIONS

Cedar Glen Meals   Prices

One of the highlights of experiencing an authentic Australian Farmstay must surely be the food. How often do you hear Australians say “I really miss the sort of food my Grandma used to make!”

Well that’s exactly what you’ll get when you stay with us at Cedar Glen and choose the fully catered package. Taking a well earned break is just not quite as relaxing when you have to think about, pack, and cook your own food. At Cedar Glen, we like to take care of all that for you – not only is it convenient and care-free, it’s really an integral part of the whole experience. All meals are prepared in the Homestead kitchen using local farm products wherever possible. Free-range eggs, milk, and most meat is from our own farm, and all our desserts are hand made on site.

We don’t aim to be fancy or profess to be something we’re not – instead we’re all about fresh cooked breakfasts, hearty picnic lunches, and traditional country style dinners to complete your experience. Locals will love reliving the traditional Australian fare, while international visitors will be enriched by another aspect of rural Australian culture.

Farm Activities       Back to prices

A diverse range of animals call Cedar Glen home. Apart from our horses and beef cattle, we have a house cow (often with calf at foot), pigs, sheep, peacocks and chickens. Naturally they all need to be cared for on a daily basis, and one of the joys of a Cedar Glen stay, is getting involved in these activities. We milk the cow each morning and encourage you to have a go. Then of course there’s feeding to be done twice daily, and eggs to be collected for your breakfast. Animal feeding occurs twice daily at 8.00am and 5.00pm, and is a favourite with adults and children alike.

Horse Riding  Prices

Horses have long been part of rural Australian farming life. Whether it be as a form of transport, for mustering cattle, or to drag heavy ploughs through dry cultivations, the horse has always been the backbone of the Australian farm.

Join us on a one-hour trail ride through the foothills of the Lost World Valley as we cross the upper reaches of the picturesque Albert River and explore the beauty of the Cedar Glen property.

All level of riders are catered for to ensure no one misses out on this ‘must do’ experience. Short pony rides are also available for young children who are not quite ready to tackle the full ride.

Billy Tea and Damper/Whip Cracking, and Boomerangs      Prices

Don’t miss out on experiencing a real Australian tradition, Billy Tea and Damper, one afternoon during your stay. We’ll boil the billy with the spectacular views to the mountains in the background, and share some home made damper, jam, syrup, and probably a few more yarns about the history of our property. We’ll also show you how to crack a stockwhip and throw a boomerang while you enjoy your afternoon tea.

Twilight Mountain Top 4WD Tour Including Champagne/Orange Juice    Prices

Named after Jack Stephens one of the original settlers of the area, “Jack’s Rocks” is a spectacular vantage point high on the Stephen’s property. It boasts spectacular views of the Lost World, the McPherson Range, and Cedar Glen. The access road to Jack’s Rocks is 4WD only and provides an exciting journey across the river and up the mountain side. To help soak up the views, we provide a complimentary glass of champagne or orange juice when we reach our destination. Don’t forget to take your camera for this one.

Fishing Prices

Years ago the Albert River was a haven for native Australian fish. Unfortunately the destructive European Carp was introduced to the river system and decimated native stocks. Over the past 15 years however, a local group of dedicated farmers and fisherman (The Carp Busters) have successfully reduced the number of Carp and restocked the river with native Australian fish. The two key species are Australian Bass and the fully protected Mary River Cod. Many thousands of fingerlings have been released into the system since the inception of Carp Busters, and although Carp will probably never be fully eradicated, the balance of nature has now been restored. Our guides are locals who have a passion for the river, and know the best spots to increase your chances of a successful catch. In support of the regeneration of native fish stocks, we operate on a strictly catch and release basis.
